Island Strategies is a consulting service conceived by Tom Kasmer. Seeing a need in the fishing industry for both strategic and technical consulting services, he launched this venture. While Tom continues to pursue his first love, fishing for salmon and albacore tuna, he has found a market for his expertise in an increasingly demanding and complex industry.

While Tom is the driving force behind the company, he has a number of partners he calls on for specific project needs. These bring additional expertise in strategic planning, resource and project management, network engineering and software development where necessary.

So who is Tom Kasmer anyway?

Tom Kasmer has been involved in the fishing industry for 30 years. From a modest beginning gillnetting with the Bojangle in 1975, he soon moved into the troll fishery and has owned a succession of trollers. He currently owns the 48 foot Feelin' Free which he fishes for salmon and albacore tuna off the west coast of BC.

During his time in the industry Tom has served as a director and executive member of the Pacific Trollers and Gulf Trollers Associations, and represented fishers on a number of advisory bodies. He has also earned a diploma in Computer Systems Technology from Camosun College in Victoria, giving him expertise in web development, database design and administration, and proficiency in a variety of programming languages. He oversees web and technical development initiatives for Island Strategies.

Tom's skill set combined with his industry experience gives him unique abilities when it comes to developing solutions for the BC Fishing Industry.
